Drink 2000 ml of water a day, tracked as you go. Sounds obvious, but most people walk around mildly dehydrated without knowing it and blame the tiredness, headaches, and afternoon fog on everything except the one thing that's actually cheap and easy to fix. You're not chasing some wellness ideal. You're just giving your body the one input it runs on and can't make itself.

Triggers:

  • First thing, before coffee. You wake up already down a glass from a night of breathing and sweating. A big glass of water before caffeine rehydrates you and wakes you up more gently than the coffee will.
  • Every time you refill, don't just pass the tap. Walking past the kitchen, filling the kettle, washing your hands. Let the sight of a tap be a cue to down a glass. Stack it onto something you already do.
  • The 3pm crash. That afternoon slump you reach for a snack or coffee to fix? It's often thirst wearing a disguise. Drink a glass first and wait ten minutes before anything else.
  • Every meal gets a glass. Anchor one glass to each meal. Three meals, three glasses, and you're already more than halfway to the goal without thinking about it.

Rewards:

  • The afternoon fog lifts. Even mild dehydration measurably drags down focus, mood, and energy. Hitting your water target often clears up the tiredness you assumed was just life.
  • Fewer headaches. A huge share of everyday headaches are simply the body low on water. Stay topped up and a lot of them quietly stop showing up.
  • You eat a little less, without trying. The brain often reads thirst as hunger. Drinking enough means fewer phantom snack cravings, especially the late-afternoon kind.
  • Clearer skin, better everything. Hydrated skin looks fuller and calmer, digestion runs smoother, workouts feel easier. Water touches almost every system, so topping it up pays off in a dozen small ways at once.

Notes:

🍶 Use one bottle you actually like. Pick a bottle, learn how many refills hit your goal, and keep it in sight. Out of sight is out of mind. A bottle on your desk does half the work for you.

🌡️ Room temp goes down easier. Ice-cold water is nice but you sip it slowly. Room-temperature water is easier to drink in real volume, so you'll hit the number faster.

🍋 Bored of plain? Add something. A slice of lemon, cucumber, a splash of juice, mint. If plain water is why you don't drink it, fix the flavor, not the goal.

☕ Coffee and tea count, but water's the base. Caffeine is fine and does hydrate a bit, but let plain water carry most of the load. Sugary drinks don't count toward the goal here.

🎯 Spread it out, don't chug at night. Downing a liter before bed just wrecks your sleep with bathroom trips. Sip steadily through the day and taper off in the evening.

💛 Don't overdo it either. More isn't infinitely better. 2000 ml is a solid general target, but if you're big, active, or it's hot, you'll need more, and if you're small, a bit less is fine. Listen to your body and let pale-yellow pee be your real gauge.

🧠 Why it works. Your body is about 60% water and uses it for nearly everything, regulating temperature, moving nutrients, clearing waste, firing your brain. You lose around 2 to 3 liters a day just existing, through breath, sweat, and the bathroom. The target isn't magic, it's just replacing what quietly leaves. Miss it and every system runs a little rougher. Meet it and the baseline of how you feel lifts.
